Bitter gourd or bitter melon or Kerala juice effect on diabetes, My personal experience

Before going in detail I would like to mention that I am diabetic, my father was a diabetic and my mother too is.

My initial diagnosis started with a simple blood glucose fasting test which read as 445 mg/dL. A fasting blood sugar level of 99 mg/dL or lower is normal, 100 to 125 mg/dL indicates you have prediabetes, and 126 mg/dL or higher indicates you have diabetes.

My Glucosylated haemoglobin (hemoglobin A1C or HbA1c) was at 14 %.

It is a simple blood test that measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months. Below 5.7% is normal. 5.7% to 6.4% is diagnosed as prediabetes. 6.5% or higher on two separate tests indicates diabetes.

My hyperopia vision (difficulty in focussing near objects) got blurred and could not read between the lines.

Now What is diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus, commonly referred to simply as diabetes, is a metabolic disease that causes high blood sugar.

The job of hormone insulin is to convert extra  sugar (glucose) from the blood into your cells to be stored as Glycogen and at need reconvert glycogen to glucose for energy in normal procedure but with diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t effectively use the insulin to carry out the normal functioning.

Untreated high blood sugar in diabetes can damage your nerves, eyes, kidneys, and other organs.

Educating yourself about diabetes and taking steps to prevent or manage it can help you protect your health.

Prediabetes

Prediabetes is the term that’s used when your blood sugar is higher than expected, but it’s not high enough for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. It occurs when the cells in your body don’t respond to insulin the way they should. This can lead to type 2 diabetes down the road.

Very important message for all,

Diabetes is not a disease, it is a disorder of an organ secreting insulin, causes may be many but control is more a mind game than actually dealing with it.

Think your diabetes is manageable and you can live with it comfortably.

Don't focus on small petty things in life.

Simple precautions can keep diabetes at a distance,

Avoid taking table suger in any form.

Avoid cold drinks and juices.

Take disciplined meals (timely).

When you are diabetic, you are a doctor of your body. Your body signals you when your sugar levels are actually higher and low and accordingly your sugar intake in any form must change.
