A unique way to make French Fries "Alu Chips" at home using solar energy to augment its taste.

French Fries also known as Finger chips or potato fries, and Alu chips in kashmir.

The name French fries originated from Belgium during world war-1, where official language of solidiers was French and Amricans solidiers stationed there dubbed the name.

In India potatoes were introduced by the Portuguese which they called "Batata".

Britishers introduced potatoes to West Bengal as a root crop, 'Alu'.

Amazingly there are  over 5,000 varieties of potatoes all over the world and China is the largest producer as a country and Mc Donalds is the largest buyer worldwide as a company.

Potatoes with its skin are a rich source of vitamin C, Potassium, fiber, B-vitamins, copper, manganese and lutein.

The unique way to make French Fries using solar enery as one important step in the process, is something you might be hearing for the first time but believe me, it works wonders at maintaining the crispy texture and an added taste to it.

French fries are a crazy delicious dish,WOW!!!

Today we will use solar energy for the first time in the process while getting the amazing end result.

The whole process shall include main steps like;

Cutting the potatoes

Soacking

Washing

Drain and Dry

Frying

Five steps and you are done!!!!

Prescribed directions

Cutting the potatoes

Before cutting we need to ensure the potatoes are fresh and preferably oval in shape to have longer cutts.

Peel off the potatoes using a peeler or knife.

Cut each potato in the middle into two halves from longer ends, rest the halves on the cut side down and start slicing into like larger match sticks with uniform size.

The cutting can be proffesional or homemade also but ensure that the slices are not too thick to deep fry.

Soaking amd washing

Put all the slices in a large bowel filled with fresh normal water. Soack for 10 minutes, change the water and repeat again after 10 minutes. Three times is enough to remove extra starch from the potatoes.

Tip: soacking helps to remove starch which helps in maintaing the crisp in shelf life.

Drain and Dry

Drain the potato slices with the help of a sieve or on a loose clean cloth available in the kitchen. Wrap the slices in a neat and clean cotton cloth for 1 hour. This will help in sqeezing out the extra water from slices.

Sunlight "solar energy" has a role in drying perfect

To further dry, here comes the role of drying the slices in the open sunlight for two hours .
This unique method enriches the potato slices with solar energy and adds to the flavour too.

Fry the potatoes

Keep ready the frying pan with oil. Heat the pan and fry the potato slices on high temp and immediately bring down to medium after sometime to avoid over frying.

Sprinkle the fries with chat masala

and enjoy the hot french fries "Alu Chips" with Tomato ketchup or schezwan chutney.

The crisp French Fries are ready to be eaten and stored.

Storing

Common Problem : Usually french fries made in a conventional way get soggy immediately after sometime of frying.

But using the above mentioned recipe will surely ensure that the fries remain fresh and crisp for a linger duration.

Pack the fries in any airltight container after cooling and the french fries stored as prescribed will remain crisp for a month atleast.

The all time favourite of kids and all age groups, the yummy, the mouth watering anytime snack, French Fries are ready to be served in the famliy and friends.

Hope the unique process of drying and storing French fries have been liked.
